Dry-Cow Syringe Packaging: One Specification or Two?

Oct. 15, 2026

World Dairy Expo puts dry-off product decisions in focus. In an interview published by American Ag Network on October 6, 2026, Boehringer Ingelheim representative Jen Roberts discussed dry-off management, including intramammary antibiotics and teat sealants. For veterinary pharmaceutical buyers, the packaging question is specific: can two dry-cow products use the same empty intramammary syringe, or should each have its own approved component specification?

QUICK ANSWER

Do not assume one approved syringe specification fits both. Compare actual fill quantity, formulation flow, dispensing force, tip and cap configuration, component identification, and filling-line setup. A common design is possible only when each finished product has passed its own qualification.

1  Start with two product-specific fill requirements

A teat sealant paste and an intramammary antibiotic formulation may behave differently during filling and dispensing. Define each product’s fill amount, flow characteristics and intended presentation before choosing a barrel capacity.

2  Check plunger travel and applicator-tip performance separately

Request sample trials using the actual formulation or a justified surrogate. Review plunger movement, expelled amount, residue, leakage, nozzle flow and cap fit. Passing a trial with one formulation does not qualify the other.

3  Control artwork and components by SKU

When two products look similar, specify the barrel printing or color, cap appearance, part reference and packing identification for each SKU. The veterinary medicine owner must approve labeling, instructions for use and any claims; packaging design alone does not establish medication-error prevention.

4  Decide whether the filling line can share a configuration

Confirm fill direction, component feeding, cap application and any changeover steps with the contract filler. Keep separate approval records if the fill quantity, component set or process differs.

Where FUDAPLASTIC Fits

FUDAPLASTIC supplies empty PE intramammary syringe packaging in four published capacities: 5 mL (G010), 8 mL (G001), 10 mL (G005) and 13 mL (G002). Its product page lists barrel, plunger and cap configurations, with OEM discussion available for applicator tips, colors, printing and packing. These are reference options, not evidence that any particular veterinary formulation has been qualified.

FAQ

Can one empty syringe be used for both product types?

Potentially, but only after separate formulation-specific, process and final-pack validation by the customer.

Does FUDAPLASTIC supply the finished medicine?

No. The company supplies empty packaging components, not antibiotics or teat sealant formulations.
