the sterilization methods of vaccine bottle packaging

Today i want to talk about the sterilization methods of vaccine bottle packaging,i will introduce sterilization and some common sterilization methods,then i will introduce the sterilization methods of vaccine bottle packaging,if in this way, i think people can understand my article well.

First,i will introduce sterilization and some common sterilization methods.

Sterilization (or sterilisation) refers to any process that eliminates, removes, kills, or deactivates all forms of life and other biological agents (such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, spore forms, prions, unicellular eukaryotic organisms such as Plasmodium, etc.) present in a specified region, such as a surface, a volume of fluid, medication, or in a compound such as biological culture media.Sterilization can be achieved through various means, including: heat, chemicals, irradiation, high pressure, and filtration. Sterilization is not distinct from disinfection, sanitization, and pasteurization, in that sterilization kills, deactivates, or eliminates all forms of life and other biological agents which are present.[1]

Then i will introduce some common sterilization methods:

  1. A widely used method for heat sterilization is the autoclave, sometimes called a converter or steam sterilizer. Autoclaves use steam heated to 121–134 °C (250–273 °F) under pressure. To achieve sterility, the article is placed in a chamber and heated by injected steam until the article reaches a temperature and time setpoint.

  2. Ethylene oxide (EO, EtO) gas treatment is one of the common methods used to sterilize, pasteurize, or disinfect items because of its wide range of material compatibility.Ethylene oxide treatment is the most common chemical sterilization method, used for approximately 70% of total sterilizations, and for over 50% of all disposable medical devices.

  3. Gamma radiation is very penetrating, and is commonly used for sterilization of disposable medical equipment, such as syringes, needles, cannulas and IV sets, and food. It is emitted by a radioisotope, usually cobalt-60 (60Co) or caesium-137.[1]

These are the common sterilization methods.

Then i will introduce the sterilization methods of vaccine bottle packaging.Because the vaccine bottles are made of plastic material,PP or PE,the melting point of these plastic material is low,so the vaccine bottle packaging generally used EO gas sterilization and 60Co gamma radiation sterilization,then i will emphasically introduce these two kinds of sterilization methods.

  1. EO gas kills all known microorganisms, such as bacteria (including spores), viruses, and fungi (including yeasts and moulds), the vaccine bottle can be packaged,the EO gas penetrates all porous materials,Even so the vaccine bottle is packaged in plastic bag,the vaccine bottle can keep good sterile,the EO gas don't corrode metal,rubber and plastic.

  2. 60Co gamma radiation sterilization,radiation that have profoundly damaging effects on DNA, so make excellent tools for sterilization.Gamma radiation can irradiate all parts of vaccine bottle,so can sterile completely,and the 60Co gamma radiation is non-pollution,no residue,convenient and rapid.

Compared with EO gas ,the cost of 60Co gamma radiation is higer.So the vaccine bottle packagine is usually steriled by EO gas.
