Properties of PE material

PE is short for polyethylene or polythene,the PE material is the most common plastic.Its primary use is in packaging,like pharmaceutical packaging bottle. PE is usually a mixture of similar polymers of ethylene with various values of n. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic.The PE material is one of fifth great synthetic resin.The PE material major fall into three types:Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE),Low-density polyethylene (LDPE),High-density polyethylene (HDPE)

Mechanical properties,Polyethylene is of low strength, hardness and rigidity, but has a high ductility and impact strength as well as low friction.And it feels waxy when touched.

Thermal properties,the melting point of high-density polyethylene is 125~137℃;the melting point of low-density polyethylene is 105~115℃ ;the melting point of linear low-density polyethylene is 120~125℃.So different types has different melting point.

Chemical properties,Most PE material havs excellent chemical resistance, meaning they are not attacked by strong acids or strong bases, and are resistant to gentle oxidants and reducing agents.Polyethylene absorbs almost no water. The gas and water vapour permeability (only polar gases) is lower than for most plastics; oxygen, carbon dioxide and flavorings on the other hand can pass it easily.PE can become brittle when exposed to sunlight.

Electrical properties,Polyethylene is a good electrical insulator.

Optical properties,PE can vary between almost clear (transparent), milky-opaque (translucent) or opaque.The LLDPE and LDPE have better transparency,HDPE has the least transparency.
